The chemistry between us

Social relationships are critical for mental and physical health and early-life social experiences can have a life-long impact on the ability for form relationships. Dr. Young will discuss how the chemistry in our brain mediate social bonding as well as the consequences of loss of a loved one. Furthermore, Dr. Young will show remarkable parallels between his studies in voles and recent studies in humans that suggest that brain mechanisms involved in how we interact with our loved ones are highly conserved from rodent to man.

You leave a book where it will be found and gain new life in the hands of another reader. In time they to will pass on the book, sharing it with another with luck, the cycle continues.

In the next Ar event, Storytelling, we want you to do the same. Spread a bit of book love, bring a favourite book, set it free and take a piece of someone else's personal literary history home with you. 

A makeshift classroom: education's in the air!

Right now, I’m in a room full of people, most of which I’ve never spoken to. But there’s one thing I know we have in common: we have spent the majority of our lives learning, and continue today to do so. Formal education is deeply rooted in our culture. In many aspects it strongly influences our lives: which job we’ll get; our knowledge about the world; our beliefs and political orientation; whether we can do something as simple as reading a street sign. And there’s no opting out, since it's mandatory. Education is very powerful and changing – and certainly worth the spotlight of an Ar event. Most, if not all of us agree that it should be the best possible. So what have we achieved so far, and what can we do from this point on?

Dear reader

I am writing to you from a distant Future. A Future where words like school, teacher and education have acquired new meanings. Schools are not anymore limited to walls, neighborhoods or cities. Teachers are not limited to a room, to a language, to a subject. Education is not defined by the government of your country, by your age, by your grades. Intrigued? Surprised? Skeptical?

Storytelling

Storytelling is a powerful human drive. We spend our existence living the story of our lives, reshaping and telling it to ourselves and others. We read and write stories to create and remember. We paint and film them, bringing to life the most beautiful and singular details of the human experience. Sometimes, we even cover our bodies with them. But what are stories for? Why do we tell them? Why is storytelling such an integral part of our brains?
